I had the wonderful opportunity to spend Christmas in Germany with my daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren. It had been over 24 years since we left Germany after a 6-year military tour. A lot has changed, but the food remains as delicious as ever.
We did a lot of sightseeing, so I got my steps in and enjoyed the breathtaking architecture. Below is just a small snapshot of things we did.
On my second day in Germany, my son-in-law took me to lunch at Brauhaus Castel, in Wiesbaden. The food was sinfully delightful.

Christmas is one of the best times to visit Germany because of the Christmas Markets and the celebratory energy. I enjoy the lights, food, the craftsmanship, but most of all, spending time with my family.
Here are a few photos of the Weisbaden Christmas Market.

This is my second time visiting Berlin, and it did not disappoint. We visited Rausch Das Schokoladenhaus, the Natural History Museum, Check Point Charlie, the Berlin Mall, and the Christmas Market.

The Natural History Museum (Museum fur Naturkunde Berlin) is worth exploring. It has everything imaginable for all ages and all interests.

On my first tour in Germany, in 1983, I had the opportunity to visit the Berlin Wall and Check Point Charlie. Seeing the Wall torn down and the large crowds visiting the site is incredible. We spent a while at the museum reading the personal histories.

Since it was a holiday weekend, the Mall was bustling. We went in just for a quick look. I did manage to find a craft shop (Idee. der Creativmarkt). It had craft paper, beads, paints, wood cutouts, and many more craft items.

I use a lot of grosgrain ribbon in my projects, so I was happy to find a variety of colors. The wooden stars and leaves are easy to assemble and paint. You can hang them as ornaments. There was an assortment of cute paper bags that came with stickers.
Cologne is a beautiful city. It is actually where cologne was invented. What I will always remember is the grandiose Cathedral.

The building of the Cologne Cathedral took from about 1248 to 1880. Over 6 million people visit the Cathedral per year.
We went to the Lindt Candy Factory. It was amazing. We learned about the history of chocolate and the chocolate-making process. Be prepared to spend a few hours there. I recommend the guided tour. It is very informative, and you get to sample a variety of chocolates. The factory was crowded, but we still had fun. We had dessert at the restaurant on the first floor, overlooking the Rhine River.

We went to quite a few Christmas Markets. I enjoyed them all, especially in Nuremberg and Berlin. I enjoyed walking on the cobblestone streets and shopping at Rewe Grocery Store. It is so much fun to look at and taste a variety of foods.
I hope that every one of my readers will have the opportunity to venture out and make new memories. GCC
